Enrichment Classes (Ages 3 and up)

Our Friday Enrichment program provides children with an additional day of learning. This year, topics have included Super Scientists, Passport to Adventure, Broadway Bound, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), among others.

In addition, we offer afternoon enrichment classes as an extension of the learning day. These afternoon classes have included Fall Sports Fun, Building, Winter Fun & Games, Superhero Workshop, and The Big Dig Dinosaur Investigation.

*Children who do not attend The Co-op may attend the enrichment programs; however, registration is required.

Strider Bike Learn-To-Ride Program

In 2017, The Co-op received a grant from the Strider Education Foundation to bring Strider Bikes and the Learn-To-Ride program to our school. Our teachers are committed to providing the best developmentally appropriate experiences for our students and are excited about becoming Strider Education Certified Instructors and teaching Learn-To-Ride classes with our students. We are currently incorporating parts of the curriculum into small group centers during classroom instruction. We anticipate utilizing the Learn-To-Ride system to work with kids during our free play/large motor skill development activities. We would also like to offer our Everybody Can Ride program as an extended day opportunity for children enrolled in our school. Our aim is to positively influence all areas of our students’ lives by building their self-confidence and can-do attitude through this program.

Field Trips

The Co-op recognizes the importance of first-hand learning experiences in reinforcing concepts.  Active and engaged learning inspires students to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they are studying and allows them to see how ideas are connected. Field trips enrich and expand the curriculum; strengthen observation skills by immersing children in sensory activities; increase children’s knowledge in a particular subject area; and expand children’s awareness of their own community. Each class participates in two or more scheduled field trips throughout the year.

Additionally, our students do not need to travel far for first-hand experiences as our neighborhood provides the perfect setting for nature walks and scavenger hunts, among other activities. Co-op teachers take advantage of these as both planned and spontaneous excursions throughout the year.
